TOP MARKS FOR ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL

A STEVENAGE primary school has been praised for its positive learning culture and the good progress made by pupils in their work.

St Nicholas Primary School, Six Hills Way, was also applauded for being a ‘harmonious community’ during its recent Ofsted inspection - in which it was awarded a ‘good’.

Inspectors told the school that pupils in all year groups are well-behaved, have a positive attitude to learning and make good progress. They also said children ‘embrace and celebrate different cultures’, with the school placing great emphasis on its values.

Inspectors highlighted the rapid progress made by children in the early years and their ‘bright and welcoming environment’, including an outside wooded area which has ‘become an important element of the children’s learning’.

Inspectors were also impressed with the range of extra-curricular activities on offer at the school, saying: “There is an impressive range of opportunities for pupils to represent their school in sports.”

Headteacher at St Nicholas Sarah Stevens said: “The children were delighted to show off our school to the Ofsted visitors, and we are thrilled that the hard work put in by staff, governors and parents has been recognised.

“Our children enjoy coming to school, are enthusiastic about their learning and make great progress –  and this all shone through in the report.”
